Brief Overview of Capital ArtsCapital Arts Gallery opened in January 2009 and since then has displayed more than 1300 pieces of art of all varieties. The shows change every seven weeks, providing visitors with outstanding examples of sculpture, water color, oil painting, acrylics, ceramics - you name it, you will see it at Capital Arts Gallery, 1203 Missouri Boulevard at some time in the year.
Capital Arts participates in a city-wide Gallery Crawl twice a year which is free and provides a great opportunity to visit a number of galleries on a Friday evening, meet artists and enjoy pleasing refreshments.
Reach for the Stars is a program in which Capital Arts partners with The Little Theater of Jefferson City and the public and parochial schools to facilitate a theater performance, usually for eighth graders. For many students, this is their introduction to live theater. The theater is stunningly quiet as the youth become engrossed in the action on stage.
Introducing art to students is important to Capital Arts; another way we do this is through Art in a Suitcase in which volunteers visit fourth grade art classes to introduce them to six 19th and 20th century masters. The children then create a hands-on project interpreting the artist they have just learned about.
For youngsters, Capital Arts offers Imagination Station, a place in Capital Arts Gallery where young children and their moms, grandmothers or other supervising adults create masterpieces from recycling items -- you'd be amazed what they can come up with a few feathers, a paper towel roll etc.
Serving the community, Capital Arts participates in Connect to the Arts in downtown Jefferson City by sponsoring chalk art for school art classes as well as for folks of all ages. Professional and amateur artists let loose with their creativity, replicating a masterpiece or something of their own creation. Watching these art works unfold is a day-long adventure!
Capital Arts offers classes in two studios -- watch our webpage for announcement of classes.
