Get Involved!

Capital Arts has a variety of ways to volunteer, to help share the wonders of art with all ages in the community.

One way is as a Gallery Volunteer, assisting with office tasks, hanging artwork and volunteering on the weekends.  Please contact us at 573-635- 8355 for more information.

ART IN A SUITCASE

Volunteers bring the fascinating lives and works of six renown arts – Picasso, Claude Monet, Thomas Hart Benton, and contemporary Faith Ringgold into every fourth grade classroom in Jefferson City. These one-hour programs, each packed in an easy to carry suitcase/portfolio, are scheduled by an AIS coordinator who matches volunteers’ calendars s with those of fourth grade art classes. After a provided, scripted program on an artist, the children unleash their own talent on a theme suggested by the volunteer. Results: Amazing! Students really absorb what they learn from “Artists” in a Suitcase.

ART JUNKIE

Art Junkies is a snazzy way of saying Gallery Volunteers! Capital Arts really appreciates the help of anyone in the community – artists, or those who just enjoy art and recognize it’s enriching qualities. Junkies are hostesses who welcome gallery visitors and share what they know about Capital Arts. Brief training sessions are offered on how to turn on lights, make sales, and enough details to make a Junkie a connoisseur of Capital Arts rotating exhibits. How often do you get to spend three hours surrounded by superb art? Don’t miss this opportunity to enrich your own life as well as those of gallery visitors!

CAPITAL STREET ART FAIR

Partnering with performing arts is an important aspect of Capital Arts’ mission. Every fall, Capital Arts unites with JazzFest in Memorial Park. On the first day, Friday September 18th, park sidewalks explode with brilliant colored chalk imaginative creations by students from across the area.

Second day visitors not only oohhh and ahhh over Friday’s student art, but they also experience live jazz while watching amateur and professional artists (all ages) chalk it up for top honors and prizes. In addition, artist tents full of wares are dispersed throughout the park.

In the evening, art and Jazz fans converge on the Park to share their love of music and exceptional art. Volunteers are needed both days to assist artists.
